    Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan is justifiably ranked as a near great president. He served from 1981 to 1989 where he successfully accomplished goals with very few damaging decisions. Reagan was an extraordinary orator who was able to strengthen relations with the Soviet Union was essential to ending the Cold War along with the use of nuclear missiles. He was able to stimulate economic growth through his “trickle-down economics” and he lowered unemployment rates. Reagan also lowered spending on welfare and reconstructed the income tax code in 1986 that eliminated many deductions and exempting millions with low incomes. He strengthened the nation and was genuinely interested in the success of the country.

    Richard Nixon:
I believe that Nixon should have been considered in the “average” range. Nixon was president from 1969-1974 and had achieved accomplishments prior to the Watergate scandal which soiled his presidency. Nixon was able to diminish active US military support in Vietnam while also training South Vietnamese soldiers to defend themselves. He wanted to help them gain as much experience as possible in order to fight against the communist nation around them. Hence why there was a prolonged military station in South Vietnam and a secret bombing mission in Cambodia. Along with this, Nixon also opened relations with both China and the Soviet Union after realizing the hostility between the two nations. After his briefing with Henry Kissinger, Nixon visited communist China and was the first president to do so since 1972. He and Kissinger continued to work together in order to improve relations with the two nations which eventually led to SALT I and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. Nixon was able to improve diplomatic relations by reducing nuclear weapons and helping prevent their activity around the world. Nixon also worked internally and furthered the advancement of civil rights by integrating schools and at the same time, he passed clean water and clean air acts, along with ending the draft and reforming healthcare and welfare. He accomplished great things in office so it was unfortunate that the Watergate scandal is the one thing he is remembered for.

For my final project,I will make a basic civil war timeline on a poster portraying various battles, along with information such as when the battle occurred, where, and the major aspects such as who won and did anything significant occur such as quotes or a high ranking officers death. The battles will be linked by a tack along with a string.

*EDIT* I changed my mind about making a poster. Instead, I plan to make an electronic alternative. I am going to make a "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" review game for the civil war using Microsoft PowerPoint. Using an under-developed game skeleton that I found online, I construct this review using a massive amount of hyperlinks and duplicate slides... as well as a "Life-Line" system if I can manage to figure that one out.

I will be doing a presentation on the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, discussing how it started, how it evolved during the years, how the players were treated, share the stories of the 2 women that actually played in the league, (and in Yankee Stadium) and show the class 2 signed baseball cards from those women.

Wyatt and I will be performing and composing our own skit version of the three day long Battle of Gettysburg. It will be filmed by a third party whom may or may not be present in the video (undecided as of now) and will take place in the production of how the generals communicated during the war with our own humorous twist to it

Wendy McStravick and I will be creating a poster honoring 6 famous women of the feminist movement(s). We will be including a small booklet featuring biographies, quotes, pictures, etc. of each of the women. The work will be divided among each of us equally, as we will both be responsible for the three of the women as well as making the poster.

    new final project proposal thread
My paternal grandfather served as Chief Petty Officer of our country's Navy from 1943 to 1952. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross for flying 48 combat missions and received this award on 6 March 2002. 58 years after his service, he spoke of his experience.

"Harry P. Ross stood in the cockpit beside his pilot," wrote Carrie Caldwell for the Intelligencer Journal in his honor, "and watched a crippled German U-boat disappear forever into the Bay of Biscay.

Ross, then a 19-year-old radioman for a naval anti-submarine aircraft during World War II, enthusiastically recalled that moment more than 50 years later.

What he won't dwell on is the fact that he was an important part of that victory. To Ross, it was just another combat mission for Fleet Air Wing 7 UPB103 Crew 11 while based in England from 1943 to 1944.

But others remember his role. And on March 6, Ross, now 78 and a resident of Willow Street, will receive the Distinguished Flying Cross."

With little primary memory of his speech myself (however unfortunately) and the deterioration of his cognition in his age, I will be watching the recording of it and preparing a formal paper in celebration of my grandfather. A digital copy of his speech will also be turned in.

    JFK
John F Kennedy should be moved up from an above average president to a near great president. Even though JFK's presidency was short he left a great path for this country. JFK was an extremely likable president but he had also handled the Cuban Missile Crisis, as well as helped fix the economy after Eisenhower's presidency he also advocated civil right he had not fully fixed civil right before he passed away. I believe that JFK would have accomplished many things in his presidency and probably would have been elected again if he was not assassinated. But he definitely left a great path for the next session.
